Word Atlas is a game and a research project. Your play helps us study how people judge closeness in meaning, and that research is used to build better open AI models. This page explains what we record while you play.

What we record

• Your moves in the game: each word you guess, its rank, when you give up, and any “expected it closer/farther” taps.
• Timing: how many guesses you had made and the time between them.
• A random session ID: your browser makes it up and keeps it in local storage. It isn’t linked to your name, email or any account. There are no accounts.

Your progress for the day is saved only in your own browser. We don’t use cookies, ads or third-party analytics.

Who handles it

Cloudflare delivers the site, and Google Cloud runs it and stores the event logs. Both see your IP address as part of handling the request. We don’t add IP addresses to the research events.

How it’s used

We use the events to measure where people and AI models disagree about meaning, and to train and evaluate open embedding models. We may publish research datasets built from them. These contain aggregate results, such as how often players judged one word closer than another. They never include session IDs.

Our legal basis is legitimate interest in running the game and doing this research.

Your choices

To get a new session ID, clear this site’s data in your browser settings. Because the ID is random, we can only find your events if you send it to us. You can find it in your browser’s local storage under word-radar:session. Email privacy@aiguessr.dev with your ID to ask about your data or have it deleted.
